Ok, full disclosure - I am the OG hype-woman for peels. I have been peeling since before there was anything to peel, and I am absolutely in LOVE with what they can do for my skin. But I’m sure what you really want to know is what they can do for your skin, and if they should become a part of your beauty routine.
So let’s start at the start - what is a peel?
Peels are all about removing the top most layer of your skin through the use of skin-friendly chemicals in varying degrees of strength (more on that later). The aim of the game? To improve the texture and smooth the appearance of, usually facial, skin. Peeling also stimulates cell turnover, prompting your skin to regenerate faster and give you a lasting glow. They are a powerful way to exfoliate and drive impurities out of your pores.
Peels sound hurty, are they?
Peels utilise chemicals such as malic, lactic, salicylic acids as well as alpha Hydroxy and beta Hydroxy acids to dissolve the top most layer of skin. These acids are definitely skin friendly, but they CAN cause some tingling and even irritation if you go for something a little too strong for your needs. That’s why it’s important to work your way up to peeling gently so you get a glow of gorgeousness not irritation.
How do I know how to get started peeling?
It used to be that you could really only get a peel at the beauty salon, but these days you can get a peel anywhere you darn well want. That doesn’t mean you should though. Here at On Trend Beauty we feel confident that Dr Dennis Gross has created the ultimate peel range that lets you baby step your way into it all.
